The Ideal Temperature in the Baby’s Room

Sleeping is the most important of all the functions of the child. It is a period of growth and development. During this period, the brain is being enlarged, and the organs of digestion and assimilation are being developed. The temperature of the baby’s room is a very important factor in their healthy development. The ideal temperature for the baby’s room should be between 66° and 74° F, which is equivalent to 18-23 degrees Celsius.

Why is The Right Temperature Important a Your Baby?

1. Temperature Regulates the Body’s Energy Level

The body’s energy level is controlled by the temperature of the body. When the body is too cold, it slows down, and when the body is too hot, it wastes energy and becomes overactive. When the body is at a normal temperature, the body’s energy level is maintained at the right level, and there is no overactivity or under activity.

2. Temperature Regulates the Brain’s Activity and Growth

Brain development and activity are dependent on the temperature of the body. When the body is too cold, brain activity is slowed down. When the body is too hot, brain activity is speeded up and can cause sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). It is very important that the temperature should be as close to body temperature as possible. This is at the lower end of the range of our ideal temperatures.

3. Temperature Regulates the Body’s Functions

During the first few months of life, temperature regulates the function of the digestive system, the heart, and circulation. The temperature of the baby’s room should be maintained at the ideal temperature for its age. Also, when choosing pyjamas, either the boy’s pyjamas or the girls pyjamas, it’s advisable that you choose the suitable material for your baby.

4. Temperature Regulates the Secretion of Hormones

The temperature of the body controls the secretion of a number of hormones. When the body’s temperature is too high, these hormones are released in larger quantities, which can cause problems in the areas of growth, development, and bone health.

Risks/ Dangers Associated with High Temperatures and Cold Temperatures in Babies

1. Cold Temperatures Damage the Alveolus of the Lungs

Extreme cold has a damaging effect on a baby’s alveoli and causes early death. Temperatures at which babies are exposed to cold should be avoided.

2. Cold Temperatures Can Cause Hypothermia

Hypothermia is when a person’s body temperature falls below normal due to prolonged exposure to very cold temperatures. This can be avoided by either dressing the male child with boys pyjamas and the female child with girls pyjamas or wrapping your baby with warm cloths.

3. High Temperature May Cause Dehydration

Dehydration is a condition where the body suffers from a loss of water and sodium. Babies may become dehydrated when exposed to too much heat and even when they sweat. The body loses fluid when it places a high amount of emphasis on getting rid of heat.

Behaviors/ Symptoms That Can Show The Baby’s Temperature is Too Low or Too High?

  1. Babies crying a lot.
  2. Baby’s sleep pattern changing.
  3. Baby shivering and weak.
  4. Pale and cool skin.
  5. Too much sweating.

Conclusion

We have learned that the proper development of a baby depends upon their right temperature. Therefore, it’ll be better to timely prevent the undesirable effects of heat, cold and extreme temperature. Unfortunately, these death threats are fast on the rise. Through proper temperature maintenance and controlling excessive temperature, babies’ lives can be extended.
